Exploring New Applications for Geotagging
(July 30 2008)

Everyone knows Google for its search functions, but in the past few years Google has been branching out to other products, including the popular Google Maps. Another little-known tool much like Maps that they’ve generated is the Google Earth. Google Earth holds even more knowledge than Maps: users can search within it to pinpoint specific shopping centers, schools, parks – any location of interest, anywhere in the world. These capabilities hold enormous potential in real estate - an industry where “Location, location, location” is the mantra - yet very few people have found an application for this comprehensive locator tool.

Leadman Electronics believes it has the answer with the new Everphoto Data Logger. The Everphoto is a palm-sized device that logs your location and time stamp whenever it’s switched on.  Turn it on, drop it in a pocket, bag, or in your car, and it will record where you’ve been and when. While the Everphoto is keeping track of your position, go about your day or trip taking pictures. At the end of the day, download your camera pictures and tracking data from the Everphoto, and Everphoto’s easy-to-use software will help you quickly and easily tag your photos with locations and display them on Google maps. This small device is very user-friendly, and will help you utilize Google’s powerful Maps and Earth applications as never before.

"This will revolutionize the way land-related industries conduct surveys," says product manager Jeff Liang. "Realtors, appraisers, investors, the list goes on. You can snap hundreds of photographs in a single day and have an exact GPS and Google Map location of each picture.  It eliminates the need to sort through hundreds of photos and tag or map them manually.” Prospective buyers and renters will then be able to easily view all of a realtor's available properties on Google Maps or Google Earth online from the realtor’s website.  "Location is key in real estate.  Renters and buyers generally want homes near a specific area for school, work, or local amenities," continues Jeff. “Now buyers or renters can see all of your properties around the area they want to live.  They can search schools, restaurants, markets, and churches via Google Maps and Earth.  They can even check traffic in real time via Google Earth to plan their future commute."

Large real estate companies such as Century 21 and websites like Redfin.com already feature searching for housing by location, but lack the ability to locate points of interest that Google Earth has. The Everphoto’s tagging abilities, coupled with the power of Google Earth, offers these advanced tools at a completely affordable price point, and is impressively easy to use. This little gadget has the potential to completely change the way properties are presented to buyers.
